V součinnosti se zahraničními instituty, jejichž aktivní členové spravují rozsáhlé archivy a zabývají se dílem německo-amerického politického filosofa Erica Voegelina (3. ledna 1901, Kolín nad Rýnem – 19. ledna 1985 Palo Alto, Kalifornie), představujeme základní principy politické teorie, které je v současné době zvláště nutné připomínat. Nechceme se samozřejmě omezovat pouze na osobu Erica Voegelina, mottem nechť jsou myšlenky všech velkých inspirátorů, kteří spojují společenský řád s řádem duše člověka. Do centra dění stavíme demokracii dlouhodobě ohroženou tyranií průměrnosti, degradací humanitního vzdělání a nově i omezením schopnosti a potřeby vzdělávat se v digitálním globalizovaném světě nových médií. Snahou je posilovat osobní odpovědnost při vytváření svobodného diskurzu ve veřejném prostoru nového tisíciletí, který funguje a má šanci přežít pouze v souladu s aristotelským pojetím summum bonum, tedy hodnot, jež nás přesahují.
Děkujeme všem, kteří se na přípravě portálu podílejí, zvláště pak zástupcům zahraničních institutů za texty i za badatelskou příležitost pátrat v jejich archivech a knihovnách. Together with foreign institutions that manage extensive archives dedicated to the works of the German-American political philosopher Eric Voegelin (Cologne, 3 March, 1901 – Palo Alto, California, 19 January 1985), we are presenting basic principles of political theory that need to be especially reminded in these days. However, it is not our intention to limit ourselves to the figure of Eric Voegelin, but welcome the ideas of all great inspirers who strive to bring together the social order and the order of the human soul. The centre stage will be taken by Democracy, long threatened by the tyranny of mediocrity, the degradation of liberal education and, more recently, the constraints in the capacity and the need of education in the globalised digital world of the new media. The aim is to reinforce personal responsibility, creating free discourse in the public space of the new millennium, which functions and may survive solely in accordance with the Aristotelian concept of summun bonum—values that transcend us.
We would like to thank all those who contribute to this website, in particular, the representatives of foreign institutions for the scholarly texts and the opportunity to dig into their archives and libraries. Unter Mitwirkung von ausländischen Instituten, deren aktive Mitglieder umfangreiche Archive verwalten und sich mit dem Werk des deutsch-amerikanischen politischen Philosophen Eric Voegelin (geb. am 3. Januar 1901, in Köln am Rhein – gest. am 19. Januar 1985 in Palo Alto, Kalifornien) befassen, stellen wir die Grundprinzipien der klassischen politischen Theorie vor, die derzeit besonders zu ermahnen sind. Wir möchten uns selbstverständlich nicht nur auf die Person von Eric Voegelin beschränken, möge das Motto auch der Ideen aller großen Inspiratoren sein, die die Gesellschaftsordnung mit der menschlichen Geistesordnung verbinden. Ins Zentrum des Geschehens stellen wir die Demokratie, die langfristig durch die Tyrannis der Mittelmäßigkeit, die Degradierung der humanitären Ausbildung und neu auch durch die Beschränkung der Fähigkeit und Bedürftigkeit sich in der globalisierten Welt der neuen Medien auszubilden, bedroht ist. Unser Bemühen wert ist, die persönliche Verantwortung bei der Schaffung des freien Diskurses im öffentlichen Raum des neuen Jahrtausends zu stärken, der funktioniert und die Chance hat, nur in der Übereinstimmung mit der Aristoteles‘ Fassung summum bonum, also mit den Werten, die über uns stehen.
Unser Dank gehört allen, die an der Vorbereitung des Portals teilnehmen, besonders dann den Vertretern von ausländischen Instituten, für alle Texte sowie für die Forschung Gelegenheit, in ihren Archiven und Bibliotheken zweckdienliche Nachforschungen zu pflegen.
