Ve spolkovém nakladatelství pro filosofii a theologii OIKOYMENH vyšla další z řady knih Erica Voegelina. Překladu se opět zhostil Jan Frei z Centra pro teoretická studia, společného pracoviště Akademie věd ČR a Univerzity Karlovy. Je to již čtvrtý překlad díla Erica Voegelina od filosofa a překladatele, který v současné době připravuje rozsáhlé dílo o Janu Patočkovi. V rozhovoru se věnujeme nejenom samotnému překladu knihy, ale hledáme i společné postoje v Patočkově a Vogelinově díle.

Sociologie politiky Maxe Webera působila na myšlení mnoha výzmaných postav naší historie i současnosti, Voegelina nevyjímaje. V tomto případě ovšem nepůjde o kritiku pozitivismu, ale o koncepci plebiscitní vůdcovské demokracie, která se snaží v jednom systému spojit celou řadu protikladů. Na směr Weberových úvah o politice významně působila (kromě jiného) i jeho temná obava ze světa slepé podřízenosti, v němž "mrtvé stroje továrních hal ve spojení se živým strojem byrokracie vytvoří klec poddanství budoucnosti..."

Wie denken zwei führende deutsche Philosophen, Wolfgang Leidhold und Jürgen Gebhardt, über Eric Voegelin? Mit ihrer Erlaubnis veröffentlichen wir eine frühere Reihe von Aufsätzen mit leichten redaktionellen Änderungen und mit den jüngsten Ergänzungen der Autoren. Sie decken alle wichtigen Stationen im Leben Eric Voegelins ab, die seine Ansichten über politische Philosophie, Selbsterkenntnis und die spirituelle des Ortes begründeten.
 

Mit der Veröffentlichung des ersten Bandes wurde das Jahrbuch Eric Voegelin Studies ins Leben gerufen. Das Jahrbuch wird durch Beilagen ergänzt, deren Bände bestimmte Themen und Aspekte des Jahrbuchs ausführlicher behandeln. Ziel der Reihe ist es, das Werk von Eric Voegelin zu rekonstruieren und damit zu einem besseren Verständnis beizutragen. Vertreter des BRILL/FINK-Verlags sprachen mit der Herausgeberin Nicoletta Scotti Muth über Eric Voegelin und ihre Pläne für die Veröffentlichung der Studie über Eric Voegelin.

Die Eric-Voegelin-Gesellschaft versteht es als ihre zentrale Aufgabe, die wissenschaftliche Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk des deutschen Philosophen Eric Voegelin zu fördern und dessen Denken einer größeren Leserschaft in Deutschland zugänglich zu machen. Die Gesellschaft ist aus dem Eric-Voegelin-Archiv e.V. hervorgegangen, der unter der Leitung von Prof. Dr. Peter J. Opitz über zwei Jahrzehnte sehr erfolgreich eben diese Ziele verfolgte. Auch dieses Treffen ist ein fester Bestandteil davon, zu dem wir Sie herzlich einladen.   

V souvislosti s blížícím se výročním narození Miloslava Petruska (1936-2012) a také v reakci na aktuální události týkající se agrese Ruska na Ukrajině připomeneme text, který napsal v roce 2009. Uvádí, že nemá žádné analytické ambice, ale chce spíše otevřít téma, o než bychom se měli zajímat, chceme-li porozumět dnešnímu Rusku. Autor je sice poněkud skeptický k weberiánské nehodnotící sociologii i k popperiánsky kategorickému odmítání sociologie vědění, nicméně jistá míra emocionální distance vůči tématu je jistě možná, ba přímo nutná. Studie měla být elementárním uvedením do tématu, na něž se stále zapomínalo, ačkoliv jsme měli celou řadu klasiků, kteří Rusku dobře rozuměl. Za všechny snad jenom T.G. Masaryka a jeho třísvazkové dílo Rusko a Evropa.

This study shows how the problem of the will became problematical for Heidegger in his mature being-historical thinking. Heidegger slowly gave up the voluntary approach to being. Through turning being-historical thinking he proceeded to the genuine non-willing. This began to open up a distance from the world of willful science-technicality toward a greater openness to being. This is needed to find genuine there-being and to approach originary beyng. Only then can the non-voluntaristic sense of the enowning of being open up, where modern subjectivity is transcended and with it also the period of technological nihilism; instead one goes on a journey to „thinking and poetizing,“ on the path of releasment and non-willing. Only thus can the zone of proper life be opened, wherein man is not ground down by mechanistic technical enframing and the mechanically subjectivistic will to power and will to will.
